The sultan sends his twenty sheiks,
the chieftain sends his forty braves,
the tyrant king sends thirty ships
to smite with hate foe across the waves;
and so all thrones and pow’rs might send
to give their foe a bitter end.

Yet God, much wiser than I am,
sent to our aid a little Lamb.
This infant Son, born for our sake,
will make the gates of hell to shake.

For while the czars and rajahs grasp,
and presidents abuse their pow’r,
a prince a pharaoh’s might may clasp
then lick the dust in that same hour –
and even so with parliaments
that ever give and take offense.

Yet God, in love, will give His own,
this Child would share with you His throne.
He does not seek to tax your part,
but seeks to heal your broken heart.

Why do the nations rage and rant?
Can vain imagination sway?
Why do they counsel and recant
against the Lord, our promised Day;
they only cut off hope and love
so gently offered from above.

Come taste the honey without price,
the gift of his great sacrifice;
for born this day is life and light
to guide us through our darkest fight.
His government will never fall,
His bread is peace offered to all.
