Winds through the Olive Trees : a new setting for SATB
I found this lovely little Christmas carol text in 2004 on Hymns and Carols of Christmas when I was working on my children’s Christmas songbook, “O Sing a Song of Bethlehem.” I’d never heard it sung before and was unfamiliar with the tune, so I made one up (which is what a composer loves to do).
This arrangment offers some tight harmonies and is suitable for intermediate to advanced singers:

Text:
Winds through the Olive Trees,
Softly did blow.
Round little Bethlehem,
Long, long ago.
Sheep o the hillside lay
Whiter than snow,
Shepherds were watching them,
Long, long ago.
Then from the happy skies
Angels bent low,
Singing their songs of joy;
Long, long ago.
For in a manger bed
Cradled we know,
Christ came to Bethlehem
Long, long ago.
