Using Epoxy Resin Clear Coat to Finish my Christmas Card Mosaic
One of the more time-intensive projects I tackled over the last couple of weeks was the Christmas Card Paper Mosaic. In order to get the glossy, tile-effect that I want, I decided to use an epoxy resin clear coat to finish off the work.
Before the epoxy resin clear coat could be applied, I had to seal the paper with something, otherwise the resin would soak into the paper and discolor it. I used mod podge, which I talk about in the second part of this article.
Your artwork needs to be up, off the table, to allow the resin to drip off the sides (I covered the table with old magazines and wax paper):
After mixing the resin and the hardener together and pouring on the surface, I brushed it around with a throw-away foam brush. I covered it to prevent dust from settling on the surface thus:
A couple of dust particles still got on the surface while drying, so maybe a big box would’ve been better (that is what the directions suggested - I didn’t have one this big). Overnight, the resin hardens, but it takes a full 72 hours to cure completely. Here it is on the first morning:
I found some additional videos that I think are useful to get an idea of how you use this material. The first is more methodical, the second stresses all the different mediums you can use this finishing material on.
Merry Christmas!
