The Horn Blows at Midnight (New Years Eve : Games or Movies or Both?)
When I was growing up, our family New Years Eve tradition was to rent some videos and watch movies until the New Year came in. I remember one year in particular; we rented “Watcher in the Woods” (a Disney thriller). I don’t know if you’ve heard about it, or seen it, but when I was young it totally freaked me out. Other NYE fair included musicals (always big at my home) and animated features (we were kids of course).
Another movie that became sort of a tradition was an old black and white comedy that was called, “The Horn Blows at Midnight.” I loved parts of this movie, but parts of it totally confused me. It is one of those movies where most of the action takes place in a dream, and that can really throw off a little kid. I was personally with the two fallen angels: I didn’t want the world to blow up!
In latter years we’ve started adding more board games to New Years Eve. Our favorite has been Scrabble, but we’ve also played Monopoly (not recently though, too much drama). Of course, if you put on a classic movie while you’re playing the game, not much is lost (you already know the movie) and it fills the time while you’re waiting for your turn.
So what is your New Years Eve tradition?
