The incense burned, the gold is spent,
the myrhh is turned into lament;
annointed on His body, torn,
before the ressurection morn.
Yet deep within the wise men’s hearts
the giving still is living.
The gifts we give, the songs we sing,
no longer live, no longer ring;
the song dissolves into a gust,
and gifts soon cankered well with rust.
Yet hearts are knit and two are one;
that turning still is burning.
Let ring the song. Let fly the gift.
Let hearts knit strong and heal the rift,
and trust in God’s beloved Son,
the gift He gave to make us one.
The gift of God’s beloved Son,
that giving still is living.
