DIY Christmas Card Gift Box (Day 36 : 365 Days of Christmas Project)
I thought the picture on this Christmas card was particularly beautiful. It is an antique photo of the LDS Salt Lake Temple in wintertime. I wanted to preserve the beauty of the card and make it useful at the same time. It didn’t seem to lend itself to some of the other projects I’ve done here because it is in black and white. So, I was browsing around online at some other people’s ideas and I found some people who had made Christmas cards into Gift Boxes.
-
Separate the front from the back of the card.
-
Trim 1/8 of an inch off one long side and one short side ofthe back of the card (this will make it fit inside the top of the box when it is complete).
-
How deep do you want the box? I chose a half inch. Measure that far away from the long edge and score with a bone folder.
-
Score the short end at twice your first measurement.
-
Now slit from that scoring to the end with an exacto knife.
-
Fold up your tabs.
-
Score the short ends, now the tabs are out of the way, at your original measurment.
-
Fold the ends up and over the tabs.
-
Use regular Elmer’s glue to secure in place.
-
Repeat for the top of the box.
The bottom should snugly, but easily fit into the top, as shown.
Here is the completed project with a little something inside. You could line the box, put shredded or tissue paper inside, etc..
Making these is quick and simple. Try making a variety of box depths.
