How to Host a Play Reading Party
How to Host a Play Reading Party
- Two people can share one copy of a play, so purchase (or print if the play is in the public domain) 1 copy for every 2 people you plan to invite.
- When you invite your guests you must decide if you want to assign parts to certain individuals or if you want to choose them at random (see step #4). You might ask your guests to bring a dessert (or fruits & cheese) for socializing after the reading.
- When all your guests have arrived, sit in a circle, facing each other.
- Draw character names from a hat to choose who will be reading which parts (you may separate the genders if you wish). Alternately, you may assign characters to your guests ahead of time. Someone should be assigned to read the stage directions as well (this is actually quite a fun part to play).
- Assure your guests they can be a ham, or a downright serious actor as long as they are having fun.
- Read the play. Each person taking his/her part/s.
- Have fun socializing and talking about the play afterward; this is the best part.
